If you're like me, one of life's greatest pleasures is delicious food from the South. But is there any way to do that and stay healthy?

This book has a possible solution.

The Southern culture came into existence when British soldiers stepped into Jamestown, Virginia with a few pigs in the year 1607. 

The locals in the area, the Powhatan Indians, took time to share knowledge of the spices they used to cook their food. It was only after a few years that the Powhatan Indians guided the British through the blossoming botanicals. They revealed their secrets about the new flavors hidden in the land.

 Over time, people from other countries came to Virginia, and the food prepared in this Southern state soon changed. It became a mixture of domestic and foreign traditions and food. The Southern cuisine is one of the most diverse and traditional styles of cooking that has passed through generations.

 It can be extremely delicious, but there is one problem.Most people avoid the Southern diet since it is not considered very heart healthy, with high cholesterol and high carbohydrates. 

Enter the Ketogenic diet.

When you follow the Ketogenic diet, you need to consume meals that are low-carb and high fat. These dishes should, however, include a moderate amount of protein. When you reduce your intake of carbohydrates, your body will need to look for an alternative means to produce energy since the glucose levels in your body will decrease.

 The only option your body has is to target the stored fat and the fat in food to produce energy. When your body breaks the fat down into ketones, your body will shift into the metabolic state called Ketosis. When your body begins to burn fat, you lose weight faster. It is for this reason that people lose weight quickly when they follow the Ketogenic diet.

This book looks at some of the recipes that involve low carb substitutes for popular Southern dishes, in addition to those Southern recipes that are already healthy.

Technology Might Hold the Key to Helping Us Eat Better

You could ride a bicycle, wear only clothes made from plants and recycle all the plastic you use – and you would still be a threat to the environment.

The fact that many of us do not give much thought to our eating habits – and how they negatively affect the environment – is evident in the constant environmental degradation happening on a global scale.

Thankfully, technology is taking a stand against these, but you should also know what they are.

Fishing

Fishing is one of the biggest sectors of agriculture. That should not be surprising, seeing as

more than 71% of the world 

is covered in water.

It is, however, estimated that 

some 20-25% of all fish consumed in the US alone are products of illegal fishing activities. Illegal fishing like these can create a lot of problems, from overfishing to ocean pollution and bypassing of numerous quotas.

We might not be environmental specialists, but we do know that the ecosystem exists in a delicate balance. Thus, disrupting the balance in the aquatic environment by overfishing holds dire consequences for us too.

How tech is helping: As stated above, one of the biggest problems in our water bodies today stem from debris. The Pacific Ocean alone is known to contain 43% of fishing gear debris, making that the largest contributor to the growing body of waste on water bodies.

Blockchain tech is currently being applied to identify the type and quantity of fishing gear which boats leave the port with. That makes it easier to track those boats whichboats leave the port with. That makes it easier to track those boats which are coming back to port with lesser fishing gear than they left with.

Likewise, blockchain helps the creation of smart contracts towards the identification of different fish species, determination of their profit margin and the establishment of a generally acceptable quota. This makes it impossible for fishermen to mislabel fish just to escape quota sanctions or make more profit on a fish too.

Livestock Farming

Even though meat supplies less than 20% of all the calorific content we need, they take up an amazing 83% of all available farmland. To put that in context, the world has just about 13% of farmland left for crop farming – and these crops make up the best part of our meals anyways.

The world is not slowing down on population growth either. If we continue this way, there would be no land left to cultivate food for the teeming population. To create more lands would be to turn to environmentally damaging practices like deforestation.

Besides that, livestock farming generates an obscene 6 billion tons of greenhouse gases yearly.

With every bite of meat, you might as well be endorsing a negative, global climate phenomenon too.

Furthermore, increased demand for meat means some animal species are fast going extinct. Even though some governments recognize this and have created reserves for these kinds of animals, poachers will just not stay off.

There has to be nothing as inhumane as endangering an already endangered species even more.

How technology is helping: The world has a large appetite for meat,so something has to be done about that. By something, some labs in Australia have already started growing meat alternatives.

Cultured and developed in the laboratory with totally plant-based materials, these meat alternatives are worked with aroma and taste so much that they taste and look like the real thing after cooking.

Likewise, connected devices and sensors are being used to curb the excesses of animal poachers in the fields. Trained to listen for poaching activity – from trap sounds to gunshot reports and vehicular movements – these sensors will communicate with rangers/ other constituted authority to alert them to poacher intrusion in real-time.

Due to the vulnerability of IoT devices to hacking, securing them will be a no-brainer. This can be done in several ways, from setting strong and secure passwords on these units to making sure they are always on a secured connected e.g. encrypting them with a VPN, broadcasting trusted WIFI frequencies only, etc.

Conclusion

While tech is doing its part, you should also contribute your quota.

In addition to all your environmental-saving efforts, always watch out for what you eat. Only shop from reputable brands instead of black-market dealers. If possible, go for organizations that display the history of the meat/ fish you are getting.

That way, you are not indirectly funding a criminal organization dedicated to destroying our environment as it is.

This is the first book of the Blood Phoenix Chronicles.

The five phoenixes work together to restrain the Sidhe Courts and protect humanity. If they fail at this mission,the world will be filled with panic and destruction. This novel is filled with tons of action and magic.

This book is well written and have well developed characters. Some parts of the can be a little complicating,but it is a quite an interesting read.

I received "Trail of Blood" by Uzi Eilam to review on my blog.

I found this book to be quite captivating. It is a very jaw-dropping mystery/suspense book.

Numerous of twists and turns within each chapter of the book.  I was drawn in to the story from the first page of the book.

Two old friends find themselves on a bloody collision course.

Dr. Gideon thought he found peace atlast. It was all disrupted by a murderous terror attack,which caused many of children to die.

 He decides to place his plans on hold and helps the Israeli Mossad to help locate the culprits that are responsible for this henious crime.

I'll definitely read more of Uzi Eilam books in the near future. I enjoyed this book for the mystery aspects and tons of thrilling action. I personally would enjoy reading a sequel to this book.

I highly recommend this book!

I received the book, "Raking Light from Ashes" by Relli Robinson to review on my blog.

I've read many books about different Holocaust survivors in the past. I am always amazed and sadden by the amounts of struggles and abuse they had to go through. A very dark time in history.

This book is a true story about a young Jewish girl named Lala. Her entire family was killed during the Holocaust. She survives through the war and all the struggles around her. Eventually, she immigrates with to Israel to live with the remaining members of her family after the war.  

The author, Relli Robinson did an excellent job with capturing the pain and sadness within this book. This book is definitely worth a read for people that are curious about a child's point of view of the Holocaust and the war.


This was truly a remarkable book!

I received the book, "The Bubble Match" by Merav Tuson Vardy to review on my blog.

This book is a very intriguing read. I haven't read an actual romance novel in a very long time.

I actually never read any of Vardy's book before. And it was a very interesting book that I wouldn't have never discovered on my own.  This book definitely reminded of one of those Korean dramas that I use to be desperately obsessed and addicted  to.

The characters in the romance novel are the CEO of Bubble Corporation, Ji-Yun and the mysterious woman named Mee-Ok.

Ji-Yun is one of those type of men that doesn't want a serious committed relationship with any woman. His heart is made of stone. He's the type that person that prefers the company of various different women, rather than just one.

His views on love pretty much changes when he meets Mee-Ok. He falls in love with her,yet she's a mystery to him.
You can feel a captivating connection between these two characters.

I greatly enjoyed reading this book. It's definitely worth a read.

I received the book,"Lions of Judea: The Maccabee Rebellion" by Amit Arad to review on my blog.

This book was definitely a fascinating read. It is the second book in the series. It is a historical fiction book by a very talented writer named Amit Arad. I was very impressed with his writing style. He uses the right words to captivate his audience.


Most people are unfamiliar with the Maccabees. They were known as a gang of warriors that gained control of Judea,which is part of the Seleucid Empire. 

They created the Hasmonean dynasty. The Jewish religion conversion was slightly forced,which caused expansion outside of Judea.

The Maccabees were massively outnumbered and knew that if they were defeated it would be the end of the Jewish people.


I greatly enjoy reading this book.
